Elemental Machines' Sridhar Iyengar to Speak at SynBioBeta SF 2017

Founder and CEO of Elemental Machines joins more than 60 other industry leaders to discuss the responsible growth of synthetic biology

CAMBRIDGE, MA, SEPTEMBER 28, 2017Elemental Machines’ founder and CEO Sridhar Iyengar has been selected to speak at SynBioBeta SF 2017, the annual conference bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, and practitioners to drive the synthetic biology industry forward. Other speakers at the industry’s premier event include genetics pioneer George Church, computing entrepreneur and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, and James Collins, one of the founders of synthetic biology.

“We couldn’t be more excited for this year’s conference, which comes at a crucial moment for the synthetic biology industry as a whole,” said SynBioBeta founder and CEO John Cumbers. “In just the last ten years, the pace of innovation has increased dramatically, and the impact of the intersection of synthetic biology and the Internet of Things, what I call 'Bi-oT,' is beginning to be felt in all industries. At SynBioBeta SF 2017, we will take stock of where we are today, and explore the various ways Bi-oT will shape the future.”

Key themes of the conference this year include biomaterials and consumer products, cell factories for biopharmaceuticals, big data and artificial intelligence meet biology, and innovations for ocean sustainability. Talks and panels will discuss the future of DNA synthesis, why protein is the killer app, investment opportunities throughout the industry and why all companies need to be thinking about a Bio-Strategy in order to be able to compete.

Iyengar's session, titled "Computation and Synthetic Biology," is taking place on October 3 from 2:45 - 3:40pm PT and will focus on how Big Data techniques are being applied to critical problems within synthetic biology. Other participants in the session include: Elliot Menschik of AWS, Michael Fero, Co-Founder and CEO of TeselaGen, Laura Adams, co-founder of ebio·ome, Joyce Yang, Scientist at Synthego, and Abraham Heiferts, CEO of Atomwise.

“Technology is rapidly accelerating the development of synthetic biology and other innovations that benefit humanity, and SynBioBeta is a cutting-edge event that shines a spotlight on the community during this very pivotal time," said Iyengar. "It’s a pleasure to discuss the future of synthetic biology and explore how technology can support the industry.”

SynBioBeta takes place from October 3-5 at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco. For more information, visit www.synbiobeta.com.
